Do I need a damp survey?

When it makes sense
If damp is spreading, if a building survey has flagged 'high moisture readings', or if you are buying a property with visible damp, a specialist survey tells you what is actually happening and what — if anything — needs doing.
What you get
A proper survey gives you a written report with photographs, likely causes and proportionate recommendations, separating necessary works from advisory and optional items.
What to avoid
Be wary of a 'free survey' that concludes you need the exact treatment the surveyor happens to sell, based on a single meter reading. Investigation should come before a sales pitch.
